It’s Okay To Ask For Help

I was reminded recently that’s it’s okay to ask for help, which, ironically, is something I typically don’t feel comfortable doing. I love to be independent, but clearly, the Universe had a different message to send to me this week.

I was in my garage, preparing to run to the grocery store. I planned to buy the ingredients for the dishes I promised to bring to a huge party I was attending that evening. It was Saturday morning, and I had everything perfectly scheduled on my calendar: I would shop, come home, cook, get ready, and be out the door “just in time” to arrive with my three fabulous dishes. But then . . . disaster struck!

My garage door would not open—and my car was stuck inside. With my usual efficiency, I grabbed my stepladder and quickly looked at the garage door assembly, but I could not figure out how to fix it. Next, I whispered a prayer under my breath and came to the realization that it’s okay to ask for help.

Now, that may sound very obvious to you, but I’m a woman who is used to solving problems on my own—partly because often I can, but also partly out of my sense of pride. My learned behavior after my divorce taught me that it’s important to appear “self-sufficient.” While I am very capable of resolving most situations myself, I quickly realized I needed some serious help—not to mention a miracle—to meet my deadline.

I picked up the phone and called a nearby girlfriend. She immediately came over to help, but the door jam proved to be more serious than we had anticipated. The clock was ticking, and I was running behind! Next, I called my handyman, who is rarely available for a spur-of-the-moment visit due to his super-busy schedule. But . . . Voila! Jimmy happened to be in my neighborhood and quickly came over to assist. What a miracle indeed! I thanked God for divinely handling my request for help.

With a few more steps, we found the right solution and my door was finally fixed. I burst out crying at everyone’s generosity in helping me —and I thanked the angels too for answering my prayer. Jimmy didn’t even charge me for his help.

Yes, it’s okay to ask for help from both friends and spirit. I realized that needing help is not a form of weakness; in fact, it’s just the opposite! Acknowledging that you need help and asking for it actually requires inner strength and self-confidence. Don’t get me wrong—it’s wonderful to be thought of as self-sufficient, independent, smart, successful, strong, loving, and giving. Do any of those words describe you? Fantastic! But sometimes our lives get tangled up, difficult, and even overwhelming. We realize we can’t do everything by ourselves or for ourselves. That’s when it’s time to ask others for help—and it’s not a form of weakness.

What a wonderful lesson that help can come to us in many forms—from our friends and family who are there to support us, from our business acquaintances who lend us a hand, or even from Divine sources, too. Don’t be afraid to ask God and the Angels for help; they’re just waiting for us to ask for assistance! And watch for the miracle that takes place as your life gets back on track.

Today, I remind myself that it’s okay to ask for help, and I am grateful for all the wonderful help that divinely flows in to me. I encourage you to ask for help, too, in any areas where you may need it.

Have a fabulous week, everyone! XO Shari
