“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” —Unknown but attributed to Albert Einstein
I stumbled across this quote recently, and I instantly fell in love with it! Then a question immediately came to mind: What would it entail to live each day as if it’s a miracle?
Often we look for miracles during a time of crisis—something tragic or difficult happens and then we request God’s help. But what would happen if every day we viewed our lives as miracle? I was taking a break from work yesterday and I went on my daily walk in my neighborhood to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. I began to look around as I always do, but this time I paid close attention, not losing myself in my thoughts. I saw clouds billowing by, and one was in the shape of a heart! A dragonfly zoomed past me as if to wish me good luck. And a morning dove cooed loudly, offering me peace and joy. My legs felt great, the sun was beaming—and in this innately perfect moment, I made a conscious decision to live each day as if it’s a miracle. I’d appreciate each and every day and all the small miracles that came my way.
Oh, I’ve had my bad days, of course! Things would go wrong, and I’d get a bit angry, frustrated, or end up in a bad mood. But slowly I’ve learned the valuable lesson of looking for a miracle every day despite setbacks. I remember one particular day when I had completely given up on the idea that I’d ever see an old friend again. We’d lost touch over the years, and I couldn’t figure out how to find her. I dearly missed her and said a small prayer and let it go. And that’s exactly when the miracle manifested! I had given it up to God, and a few months later, she contacted me. I was so surprised!
No matter what life brings us, today I ask you to look for just one small miracle that comes your way. Perhaps it will be hidden in the smile of a child you stopped to help or you receive a call that a friend is safe after an accident—or something even bigger like a long-awaited relationship finally arrives. Yes, live each day as if it’s a miracle and look for the blessings each and every day. XO Shari
